FOSTERING PETS FOR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN
Periods of transition can be especially difficult on service families with pets. One solution: the Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet program (GASP), which provides foster homes for these special family members of servicemembers during times of deployment.
Started in 2005, GASP can mean the difference between keeping a beloved pet or having to give it away. The program takes special care to match pets with appropriate foster volunteers, provide financial assistance to volunteers, and protect the interests of all parties. If foster care is not an option, the Military and Veterans Pet Sanctuary Project will soon provide temporary shelter for pets near Fort Hood, Texas.
